When I unlock my phone, I get ready to scroll. When I unlock my laptop, I get ready to type.
A smartphone is designed to consume media. It discourages creation and contribution. A laptop enables creation. With its keyboard, you can program apps, build websites and write novels.
Most apps come with a web-version. Social media, instant messaging, message boards, news – all of them can be consumed on a laptop with less distraction and more focus. On any of these platforms, if you have something worthwhile to say, you are more likely to do it on a laptop than on a phone.
If you wish to move from a mindset of consumption to one of contribution, use a laptop. Not a phone.
