Have you ever had an idea that nobody else could have had? Have you ever solved a problem that others were stuck with? Have you ever contributed in a manner that only you could have? Have others ever missed you when you were gone?
Most people would answer these questions in the affirmative. Yet, when we ask the same people about their genius, they would claim to have none whatsoever.
The system leads us to believe that we are ordinary. This is because the owners of the system want want us to fit in, to comply and to not ask uncomfortable questions. This way, they benefit at our expense.
