Why freedom of speech?

Because rules are inevitable.

Because rules need to be followed.

Because people don’t follow rules that they cannot criticise.

The reason autocrats and dictators everywhere clamp down on free speech is because free speech threatens compliance. In the long-run, however, the opposite is true.
