What makes your boss your boss?
Is it because she tells you what to do? Is it because you tell her what you did? Is it because she decides your pay? Or is it because of the conversation she has about your annual performance?
What if, when she tells you what to do, you suggest a better alternative? What if, while reporting to her, you ask her about her foremost goals and help her achieve them? What if you suggest your own annual goals, influence their performance and thereby earn a well-deserved raise? If you did all of these things, who is your boss?
Between an order you receive and its execution lies your power to choose and the freedom to be your own boss.
