Why are physicists obsessed with sub-atomic particles?

Our entire universe is made by combining a set of sub-atomic particles. If we understand how these particles behave and interact, we can understand every interaction that happens in the universe.

The key to understanding anything is to break it down to its fundamental constituents and understand them. The challenge with learning anything is to cut through the noise to focus on the fundamentals.
