Our workplace and the supermarket

In the last two centuries, our workplace needed us to take orders and execute them to perfection. Our work was akin to being handed a shopping list and finishing a shopping trip in the least amount of time.

Yet, our workplaces are changing fast. In today’s workplace, each one of us needs to contribute new ideas and make crucial decisions.

Each one of us is now required to think about which ingredients we need to put on a shopping list. We also need new recipes – the old ones are already exploited. And this work isn’t about efficiency – it is about creativity and contribution.

We are conditioned to operate in a world of efficiency. You can secure the best grades at school without having a single original idea. Yet, the workplaces of today and tomorrow need us to replace compliance with creativity and contribution.
