Time slows down when you do something difficult.
To generate ideas for blogposts, I sit down for half-an-hour without any other distractions. The first few minutes, when I wait for inspiration to strike, often feel the longest. My brain feels like a frozen block of ice – hard and unrelenting. At some point however, that block of ice starts melting and the ideas trickle in. Once that happens, time starts ticking faster again.
Now this doesn’t always happen. There are days when half-an-hour ticks by and leaves me no wiser. Even then, the exercise isn’t wasted. I take solace in the fact that I did the difficult job of showing up.
When time slows down during a worthwhile task, stick to it. Your best ideas are just around the corner.
