Deeper than the symptom

If your red sauce pasta tastes funky, the solution isn’t to add some ketchup to cover it over. You have to find out which of your ingredients or which step in your cooking process caused the problem.

If your computer is slow to boot, it doesn’t help if you merely clear your desktop icons. You have to look deeper at your PC’s startup scripts, its memory management and the health of its hardware.

If you are unable to sleep because your mind is racing with thoughts, the solution isn’t to start popping sleeping pills, but to see what is causing your mind to be hyperactive precisely when it ought to wind down.
