Since anyone can always become a better writer than they are currently, there is no such thing as a perfect writer. The opportunity before all of us is to improve our writing one tiny slice at a time. The challenge, in most cases, is to identify the next tiny slice that you write.
You become a better writer by writing more. You could write a novel, a long article or a humble blogpost. All creative writing is hard work – it is the generous act of digging into our feelings, our intuitions and our ideas and translate them into words that make them accessible to other people. However, it is considerably harder to peel off a tiny slice of a novel to work on each day, since every little slice is linked to all the other slices.
A daily blogpost is, by design, a tiny, independent slice of writing that you do everyday. The way a daily blog is designed makes it easier for you to get some writing done every single day and keep pushing at your writing boundaries. Besides, it is easier to fit into your schedule beside your other jobs – as an employee, as a parent, as a life partner and so on.
Since the world can always be made into a better place, there is no such things as a perfect world. The opportunity before all of us is to take the tiniest slice of the world and make it a little better through our efforts. The challenge, in most cases, is to peel off that tiny slice you wish to improve. The easiest way to do that is to organize your contribution into a daily habit.
