Discontent is the default state

We have had phenomenal success with our tomato plants this year.

Initially, I was elated at how many fruits it had borne. As time passed, my attention went to the flowers that hadn’t turned into fruits. I observed the state of my mind go from, ‘Wow! We have been so lucky with the tomatoes’, to ‘Why are some of these flowers withering away instead of turning into tomatoes?’.

The human brain is designed to take success for granted and make us feel miserable. Watch out!
