A bias towards subtraction

Regard addition with suspicion, for addition increases a system’s complexity. Sure, some meditation apps are great, but using one puts me in the paradoxical position of needing a phone connected to the internet to be able to meditate.

Regard subtraction with generosity. Subtraction removes moving parts from a system and makes it easier to maintain. When I pursue fewer things, there is more space and time in my life for the handful of projects that are truly meaningful.

When you wish to improve something, consider subtraction ahead of addition.
