With a different pair of ears

There is a trick I use when I revisit a song. I try and listen to every bass note. This way, the bass, which usually blends into the background, takes center stage. I have found several songs to have become more enjoyable by doing this.

By focusing on the bass, I listen to the song from a different vantage point. Facets of its personality emerge that are hidden from plain view.

What would the Mahabharata look like from Draupadi’s perspective? What did the 100m race look like from the person who finished 2nd behind Usain Bolt? What does the board meeting look like for the intern sitting at the table, scribbling notes? What does a politician’s speech look like from the perspective of the bodyguard standing next to her?

There are many ways to listen to the same song.
